About Barbara

I am a native Georgian, but spent most of my life in the Charleston, South Carolina area.
Although I was always creative, I didn't start seriously pursuing my dream of being an artist until my two children were grown.
I have had the pleasure to study with many wonderful artists including Ralph Smith, Tony Couch, Alex Powers, Steven Jordan, Virginia
Fouché Bolton and Del Holt.
My first gallery membership was with the Sea Gull Gallery in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.  I also exhibited at the Courtyard
Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina as well as the Artists' Gallery in Jacksonville, Florida.  I joined Artists' Row in
Augusta, Georgia in the mid-90s and am currently a partner in Gallery on the Row, a gallery I share with other talented local artists.
Over the years, my art has ranged from watercolor and acrylics into oil on canvas.  I have been commissioned to paint murals
for the Aiken Vocational Rehabilitation Center, B.C. Davenports restaurant and many private homes.  In 2007, I presented
Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver with a painting of his rescued Greyhound and yellow Lab.  My artwork has benefited many
nonprofit organizations, including Child Enrichment, Inc., Medical College of Georgia Children's Hospital, The Hitchcock
Woods Foundation and various others.  I have painted many subjects from florals to landscapes, but my true love
is pet portraiture.
I love to paint animals and capture the spirit I see in their eyes.  Our pets are such important, loving parts of our lives - sitting with us when we need them and loving
us unconditionally - each with their own unique charm.  I look forward to meeting you and your pet and to capturing those
special personality traits.
I now reside in Augusta, Georgia and work in a studio on the Savannah River.  I promise you'll love my painting of your
beloved pet.  I look forward to hearing from you.
